Social Hub

Our lottery funded Social Hub is a weekly get together where residents can unwind, be creative and enjoy the company of others. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and many people say it feels more like spending time in a cosy living room than attending an organised activity. Some come along to try something new, while others simply enjoy a friendly chat and a warm drink.

Each session offers a mix of easy, community led activities such as painting, model building, card decorating and other simple crafts. There’s never any pressure to join in — plenty of residents are just as happy doing a crossword, reading the paper or catching up with neighbours.

Over the course of two relaxed hours, friendships form naturally and people who might not otherwise meet get the chance to connect. It’s a simple idea that brings a real lift to wellbeing and community spirit.

The hub also plays an important role in supporting health and wellbeing. A community nurse visits regularly to share helpful information on common health issues and to offer one to one checks.

Residents can drop in at any time — no appointment needed — for advice or to have their blood pressure, blood sugar or BMI checked.

If anything needs further attention, the nurse will gently encourage a follow up with a GP so people can stay on top of their health.

As part of this support, the hub recently hosted a Dementia Awareness session. This was designed to help residents better understand what dementia is, how it affects people and the small ways we can support those living with the condition.

The session offered clear, reassuring information and gave people the chance to ask questions in a safe, friendly environment. Many attendees said it helped them feel more confident about recognising early signs and knowing where to seek help.

Past information sessions have also covered topics such as arthritis, which affects many older people. Residents often say they appreciate having trustworthy, easy to understand advice available in such a relaxed setting.

The combination of friendly conversation, creative activities and practical health support makes the Social Hub a valuable part of the community — a place where people feel welcome, informed and connected.
